Itinerary

Upon arrival at Vientiane airport, we will be met and transferred to our centrally located hotel. Vientiane is a fascinating capital, with a fusion of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and American influences. This charming and easygoing city will provide a smooth introduction to Laos.

Overnight in Vientiane.

Your second day tour in Laos starts at 7:30. We travel about 90 km along highway No. 13 (south) until we get close to Ban Thabok (Bolikhamsay Province), where we turn left and follow a dirt road for another 7 km before reaching Ban Hatkhai. Our truck brings you directly to Pha Xay, passing rice fields and beautiful forest. We start to trek along a network of trails. Orchids will be spotted all along the way but particularly in the area around the waterfalls. You are guided by local villagers and an orchid expert and you will not only be surprised about the abundance of orchids but get insights into their specific biology and ecology. While hiking through bamboo forests and jungle paths, you will also have the opportunity of getting introduced to many other plants used by the local people for medical purposes or as food supplement. A picnic lunch awaits you in the midst of the forest. We return to the access road where our car will wait to bring us back the eight kilometer to Ban Hatkhai. We expect to finally arrive in Vientiane in the late afternoon at around 18h30.

Overnight in Vientiane.

We will visit the major sights of the capital; including the oldest Wat Sisaket, the temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. On the way to Lao’s national precious heritage, the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, we stop en route to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. We farewell Vientiane and depart for Vang Vieng, which is surrounded by limestones mountains and the Nam Song River. Upon your arrival, check-in your hotel.

Overnight in Vang Vieng.

This day tour in Laos takes you to several sites in the surrounding of Vang Vieng and introduces the novice to the thrill of cave explorations. Plenty of opportunities to gain insight into the way of life of Lao people, before ending the trip by kayaking on the Nam Song River. Grab your mountain bike and cross the Nam Song River via a bamboo bridge before starting off the day with exploring one of the most unusual caves in the area 'Tham Poukham' (Blue Lagoon) the amazing ``Cave of the Golden Crab``. Our guide will escort you then to Tam Jang cave 172 steps where you can see the spectacular views of the city and the landscape. We will transfer to the ethnic Khmu village of Viengsamay where after an introduction to the basics of kayaking we shall set off down the beautiful Nam Song river. End of your fifth day tour in Laos, transfer back to hotel for resting.

Overnight in Vang Vieng.

After breakfast at the hotel, departure for Luang Prabang – ancient capital and the old Royal City of Laos. The journey between Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang is truly magnificent because there are so many small villages and rice fields. Lunch on the way. Stop on the way at some local villages or markets to observe the local life before heading to Luang Prabang. Upon arrival, check-in your hotel and time for resting.

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Breakfast, we visit the National Museum at the former Royal Palace displays a lovely collection of the artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating from the days of the early kings right through the last sovereign. The National Museum and the Central Market are not to be missed. We enjoy a short tour seeing the city’s oldest temple Wat Sene and Wat Xieng Thong, a significant monument to the spirit of religion, royalty and traditional art. Later we’ll visit the impressive Wat Visoun, the oldest temple that houses many Buddha images. Next is Wat Aham, the ‘Monastery of the Blossomed Heart’ exudes serenity, and Wat Mai, the largest and most richly decorated of the temples in this city. We embark on a boat for a leisurely trip on the Mekong River, stopping en route at Ban Xang Hai to see the production of and to sample the local rice wine. Upon leaving this village we pass through stunning mountain landscape to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. These two linked caves are crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes, all brought there by devout villagers. After the river trip we drive toward Ban Phanom, a small village known for its hand weaving.

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning, try to become a farmer in the Living Land, located 5km from city center. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to observe the process of rice production and to join the activities of Asian rice farming: selection of viable seeds for planting, plowing a field with a buffalo, recovery of young shoots, transplanting manual, harvest, threshing, drying and separating the bark from the grain. Do not miss an organic garden with fresh vegetables, located in a green setting of the farm. You cannot leave this ancient capital without visiting Kuang Si, the most beautiful waterfalls in Luang Prabang. Take to the road, (about 30km), to discover these waterfalls where the water is turquoise all year round. At the bottom of the falls, a series of natural pools invites you to swim. In addition, you can take a walk in the forest or continue to climb to the top of the falls. On the way back to the city center, you can observe daily life in a few ethnic minority villages of Laos, like the Hmong village (in Ban Ouay), the Laoloum village (in Ban Ou), and the Khmu village (in Ban Thapene).

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

After breakfast, we depart for the Elephant Village, a center with a focus on the protection and rehabilitation of elephants in Laos. Upon arrival, you will meet the camp manager and hear about the work carried out by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers in caring for the elephants. Next, climb aboard an elephant for a jungle walk (25mins, one person per elephant, on the neck of the elephant). Receive your basic mahout training on how to control an elephant just like a mahout! After lunch, Take your own elephant down to the Nam Khan river for an exhilarating and once in a lifetime bathing experience! After relaxing time at Tad Sea waterfall, transfer back in town.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Transfer to airport for departure to next destination.
